In Afghanistan, as in many other countries, the legal age for marriage is 18 for males and 16 for females. However, there are still cases of child marriages and forced marriages, especially in rural and traditional areas of the country.

A wedding between a 28-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man may raise some ethical and moral concerns, especially regarding the significant age gap and power dynamics between the two individuals. In some cases, such marriages may be motivated by financial or social reasons, rather than love or mutual respect.

It is important to note that every individual has the right to choose their partner and make their own decisions about their life. However, it is also important to ensure that these choices are made freely and without coercion or pressure from others. In cases where there may be potential risks of harm or exploitation, it may be necessary to intervene and provide support and protection to the individuals involved.

There can be many reasons why girls are forced into marriage. In some cultures, it is seen as a way to secure the girl’s future and protect her from poverty or other dangers. Families may also believe that marrying their daughters at a young age will help them to ensure their virginity and chastity, which are highly valued in some communities.

In some cases, girls may be married off to older men because of financial reasons. The groom may offer a dowry or payment to the girl’s family, which they may see as a way to support themselves or other family members.

In some traditional and patriarchal societies, girls are viewed as property or as a burden to their families, and marriage is seen as a way to transfer that burden to a husband. Additionally, girls may be forced into marriage due to cultural or religious beliefs that prioritize marriage and family over individual rights and freedoms.

It’s important to note that forced marriage is a violation of human rights and can have significant negative consequences for girls, including an increased risk of domestic violence, health problems, and limited educational and economic opportunities. It’s crucial to work towards eliminating forced marriages and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of gender, have the right to choose their own partners and make their own decisions about their lives.
